COLLEGE ROUNDUP : UC Irvine Wins Golf Tournament

UC Irvine’s Gold team won the Anteater Invitational golf tournament with a three-round score of 891 Tuesday at Coto de Caza Country Club.

San Diego State (898) was second and Long Beach State (899) was third. Dan De Vilbiss of San Diego State won the individual title with a three-round total of three-over 219. The teams played 36 holes Monday and 18 Tuesday.

Drew Sells of UC Irvine was second at 220. He shot 74 Tuesday.

In nonconference baseball:

Chapman 9, The Master’s 8 (10)--Jason Smith singled with the bases loaded and no outs in the 10th for Chapman (9-17-1). The Panthers loaded the bases on a single, a walk and a hit batter. Donnie Disbro had two hits including his first home run and drove in three runs and Miguel Galaz had two doubles and drove in two runs. Jason Switzer had four hits and drove in a run for Chapman.

Kenya Hunt had a three hits including a double, drove in two and scored twice for The Master’s.

Redlands 3, Southern California College 1--Ila Boarders (2-3) gave up six hits and three runs, one earned, in five innings and took the loss for host Southern California College (11-21).

Cal State Bakersfield 5, Concordia 4--Cal State Bakersfield’s Frank Funderburk hit a one-out, bases loaded single to score the winning run.

In nonconference softball:

Southern California College 12-9, Biola 0-1 (both games, mercy)--Amy Lewis had four hits and drove in seven runs and Carrie Nelson had three hits, stole five bases and had two RBIs and two runs scored in two games for Southern California (26-6).
