Beach Party to Get Special Train Service
Special Metrolink trains will run to Ventura for the city’s ninth annual California Beach Party later this month.
The city has agreed to pay about $18,000 to provide train service to its biggest special event of the year for the first time in the party’s nine-year history.
Sponsored by the city, the beach party features entertainment, sports and other activities geared around a ‘50s and ‘60s theme.
Three round-trip trains will run each day of the weekend event, scheduled for April 23 and 24.
Trains will stop in Simi Valley, Moorpark, Camarillo, Oxnard and Ventura. Tickets from Simi Valley and Moorpark will cost $3 one-way and $6 round-trip. From Camarillo or Oxnard, tickets will cost $2 one-way or $4 round-trip. Metrolink monthly pass holders can ride free, as well as children under the age of 5.
Similar train service to the county fair last summer attracted about 35,000 riders and turned a profit of more than $8,000.
Advance tickets will be sold at the city halls of the areas served and at the train stations on the days the service is offered.
Entrance to the beach party is $5.50 for visitors 12 and older, $3.50 for senior citizens, and free for children under 12.
