SIGNAL HILL : Minister Finds Infant in Bag on Church Doorstep
Police were searching Thursday for the parents of a baby that a minister found in a vinyl bag at the front door of his Signal Hill church.
The pastor’s dog sniffed out the infant about 5:25 a.m. at Signal Hill First Baptist Church at 1948 E. 20th St. The baby was wrapped in a towel and tucked in the bag, said police Detective Mary Risinger.
Police took the child to Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, where he was in good condition.
The child, weighing six pounds, was less than a day old and had probably been on the church steps no more than two hours, authorities said. The county Department of Children’s Services will find a home for the baby, Risinger said.
