A Sherman Oaks man who was found lying on a curb suffering from several gunshot wounds died later at a local hospital, authorities said.

Several residents on the quiet block of 4000 Dixie Canyon Avenue, where residents jog and take late night walks, heard shots fired about 12:45 a.m. and called police.

Authorities declined to name the 29-year-old man until family members are notified. Police said he was alive when paramedics arrived and took him to North Hollywood Medical Center where he died.

Resident Lowell Hoskins said he and his daughter were watching television when shots were fired. They heard a car pull away but saw nothing, he said.

“We have break-ins, but nothing like this before,” said Hoskins, who has lived in the area for 14 years.

Caretaker Josephine Koker, who lives near where the body was found, said she was awakened by a loud noise and thought it was another earthquake.

Police have no suspects.
