Pendleton to Hold Shelling Exercises
People living within 50 miles of Camp Pendleton should expect to hear sporadic explosions throughout the day on Monday because of shelling exercises at the base.
The explosions will be the result of 95-pound projectiles fired from 155mm howitzers in the middle of the base. Five surrounding communities--San Clemente, Temecula, Fallbrook, Vista and Oceanside--will probably feel rumblings in addition to hearing the explosions, which will last until midnight.
The shelling is part of monthly training.
