COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Northridge Sweeps Past Colorado State, 6-0 and 2-0

Cal State Northridge’s softball team got back on track Saturday and swept Colorado State, 6-0 and 2-0, in a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader at Northridge.

The sixth-ranked Matadors (31-6, 8-2 in conference play), who split with unranked New Mexico on Friday, got strong pitching from Amy Windmiller and Jennifer Richardson.

Windmiller (17-1), who has won 13 consecutive starts, pitched a three-hitter and struck out four.

Richardson (5-0), whose two-year record is 12-0, tossed a two-hitter, striking out nine. Jen Fleming and Beth Calcante homered in the opener and Shannon Jones hit one in the second game.

Moorpark 1, Cuesta 0--Jana Kovar (7-5) pitched a three-hitter and Shannon Henry singled home Liz Lopez in a Western State Conference game at Cuesta.

BASEBALL

Mission 1-10, L.A. City 0-7--Gary Matthews singled home the only run with two out in the ninth inning of the first game and had three hits, three runs and an RBI in the second game for the Free Spirit (19-13, 11-6) in a Southern California Athletic Conference doubleheader sweep.

Ventura 12, Canyons 4--Five players hit home runs for the Pirates in a WSC game at Canyons.

DIVING

Anush Nkrtumyan finished fourth and Eyre Becker was ninth for Valley College at the Saddleback College Diving Pentathlon.

TRACK AND FIELD

Nancy Harris of Glendale College won the open discus with a throw of 113 feet 6 inches, and Yeko Ledeepko of Canyons took the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1 minute 10.19 seconds in the UC San Diego Invitational.
