CITY COUNCIL

* WORK DAY--Approved participation by all city employees in “Take Your Daughter to Work Day” on April 28. The event is designed for girls age 9 to 15 to observe the working world.

* VENICE ART WALK--Authorized the Department of Transportation to post temporary no-parking signs on the east side of Main Street between Westminster Avenue to Club House Avenue from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on May 14 for the art walk.

* TICKET AGENCIES--Approved a motion expressing support for a bill in the state Assembly that would impose stiff fines on ticket agencies that fail to provide tickets to customers who have paid in advance. The bill, which would impose penalties up to $50,000, stems from an incident at the 1994 Rose Bowl, when a ticket agency failed to provide tickets to dozens of fans from Wisconsin who had already paid for them.

* METRO RAIL STATIONS: Approved the appropriation of $500,000 to enhance three Metro Rail stations along Wilshire Boulevard at Western, Normandie and Vermont avenues. The money will be used to landscape median islands, erect two gateway monuments and plant 2,550 trees along Wilshire between Hoover Street and Wilton Place.

HOW THEY VOTED

* RENT CONTROL--Approved a motion expressing opposition to a bill in the state Assembly that would exempt new construction from rent control. Passed 12-0.

Voting yes: John Ferraro, Marvin Braude, Zev Yaroslavsky, Ruth Galanter, Mark Ridley-Thomas, Nate Holden, Jackie Goldberg.
