Prosecutors Won’t File Charges Against Man in Daughter’s Death
Prosecutors have declined to file charges against a Santa Ana man arrested in connection with the death of his 6-month-old daughter, but the case remains under investigation, authorities said Tuesday.
Construction worker Ruperto Ramirez, 28, a father of five, was arrested Thursday on homicide charges after paramedics were called to his house at 4 a.m. because his daughter Cathy Licet Ramirez had stopped breathing, officials said.
The little girl died at UCI Medical Center in Orange, apparently after suffering severe blows to the stomach, doctors said.
Deputy Dist. Atty. Clyde Von Der Ahe said Tuesday that he reviewed and rejected the case for filing, but said he could not discuss the reasons because of the ongoing investigation. Police say they are not dropping the case.
“We’re searching for additional information on Ramirez to take to the district attorney’s office,” said police Lt. Robert Helton.
Ramirez remains in custody at the Orange County Men’s Jail on an unrelated probation violation, authorities said.
