Hamburger Hamlet Chief Resigns: Hamburger Hamlet Restaurants Inc. said Chairman and Chief Executive Thomas A. McFall resigned as part of an agreement with a major shareholder group. The faction, HAMB Investors Group, last month indicated it might seek McFall’s resignation as part of a plan to try to improve earnings at the Sherman Oaks-based company. HAMB Investors owns 16.2% of Hamburger Hamlet, which operates 23 restaurants in California and 14 in other parts of the nation. The company said its directors elected fellow board member James J. Gaffney to replace McFall as chairman. Gaffney is chief operating officer of KDI Industries, a Cincinnati-based manufacturer of swimming pools and electronic components for military weapons systems. Another board member, Jack A. Lavine, was selected for the post of chief executive. Lavine founded the Chili’s restaurant chain.
