An organization of Native American students at Orange Coast College will hold a powwow this weekend on campus.

The Native American Student Organization will host the celebration at LeBard Stadium, featuring singing, dancing, handcrafted art and food. Laguna Pueblo, Sioux, Apache and Navajo Native Americans will perform traditional music on drums, Orange Coast College spokesman Jim Carnett said.

The event will run from noon to midnight Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $1, but anyone bringing a canned food item may enter for free.

The canned food will be given to the Southern California Indian Center, and money collected from admission fees will go toward scholarships.

This will be the fourth year that such a celebration is staged, Carnett said. Last year’s event drew more than 10,000 people.
