SANTA PAULA : Golf Event to Benefit Alzheimer’s Research

Share

Area golfers are invited to play in a tournament to raise money for Alzheimer’s research and education in Ventura County, with sponsors offering prizes for winners, including a free car, a trip to Nevada or a cruise to the Channel Islands.

The Texas Scramble tournament was organized by Pete Burnes, 86, of Thousand Oaks, whose wife suffers from the debilitating disease.

“These are tough times to be doing fund-raising events,” Burnes said. “Southern California has been hit hard. But this disease hits harder, and it affects all of the family.”

The Spring Golf Classic and Dinner begins at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the Mountain View Golf Course in Santa Paula, with dinner to follow at 5 p.m. at Logsdon Restaurant at the Santa Paula Airport.

In a Texas Scramble tournament, all four members of a group tee off individually. But instead of playing their own balls where they lie, they take all subsequent shots from the point where the best ball landed.

Registration is $85 for golf and dinner. Dinner alone is $15. For information, call the Ventura County chapter of the Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders Assn. Inc. at 643-2614.
