Fetzer Vineyards announces a recipe contest (“The Great Salad Toss”) for “wine-friendly” salad recipes. This is more of a challenge than you might think; most connoisseurs insist vinegar spoils the flavor of wine. Write 100 Times: Nothing in Excess

A recent issue of the journal Pediatrics reported on eight children, aged 14 to 27 months, whose abnormally slow growth was traced to drinking too much apple juice. When their parents started providing three full meals and two or three snacks a day--and keeping the apple juice ration below half a cup--the children started to grow normally again. Wholesome though it is, apple juice just doesn’t provide enough protein, minerals and fat for growing children.

Nabisco Biscuit Co. says it will introduce reduced-fat Oreos--as well as low-fat Ritz Crackers and Chips Ahoy! and reduced-fat Triscuits, Better Cheddars and Wheat Thins--on April 25. The original varieties will continue to be available.
