Council OKs 3rd Office for Alarcon

The Los Angeles City Council approved a request Wednesday by Councilman Richard Alarcon to open a third office in his east San Fernando Valley district, making him the only council member with more than two district offices.

Alarcon said the office at 81228 Sunland Blvd., Sun Valley, will be in a building he will share with the Sun Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Los Angeles Police Department. It will be open by next month.

He defended his proposal for a third office, saying his district is elongated and lacks representation in the southeast end of the district. Alarcon operates district offices in Sylmar and Pacoima.

Alarcon said the costs of running an additional office will not force him to exceed his office budget because he shares leasing costs for his Sylmar office with Councilman Hal Bernson and shares costs for his Pacoima office with Pacoima Enterprise Zone officials.
