A woman driving home early Wednesday morning was forced to the curb by assailants in two cars and robbed at gunpoint when she stopped her car, police said.

The Seal Beach resident was not injured in the robbery. She had exited the southbound San Diego Freeway at Seal Beach Boulevard about 1:30 a.m. when two male motorists--one in an older Jeep and the other in a Chevrolet Camaro--boxed her in and forced her to pull over and stop, police said.

The driver of the Jeep approached the woman and put a gun to her head, demanding her purse, which she gave to him, police Investigator Darrell Hardin said. The unidentified woman, who works in a Gardena casino, had $1,300 in cash in the purse, he said.

The woman told police both vehicles sped toward the San Diego Freeway after the robbery.

Immediately after the robbery, the victim went to a nearby fire station and called police, said Rick Paap, spokesman for the Seal Beach Police Department.

According to Hardin, this type of robbery is not uncommon.

“The head of security at the club said it is not an uncommon crime,” Hardin said. “They have quite a few of these types of robberies of customers and employees, (incidents in which victims) are followed and robbed. There is no telling how many people are being victimized this way.”

Club officials could not be reached for comment.

Hardin said the driver of the Jeep was described as a black male in his 20s who was about 6 feet to 6 feet, 2 inches tall, with a thin build. The driver of the Camaro was described as a Latino male in his 20s who was about 5 feet, 6 inches to 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with a stocky build.

Both vehicles are either black or dark blue in color, Hardin said. Anyone with information on the case should call Seal Beach police at (310) 431-2541.
