Kotsay, Ferguson Pace Titan Victory

Mark Kotsay and Jeff Ferguson each were four for five to lead Cal State Fullerton to an 8-6 victory over UCLA Wednesday night at Titan Field.

Kotsay scored two runs and hit his first home run of the season for the Titans, 32-8 and ranked No. 1 by Baseball Weekly. Bret Hemphill and Adam Milan each had two runs batted in.

Pitcher Dan Ricabal entered the game with two outs in the seventh and got the last out. He earned his fifth victory of the season when Fullerton scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to erase a 6-5 Bruin lead. Ted Silva pitched two scoreless innings to earn the save for the Titans.

UCLA (13-26) was led by Mike Mitchell, who was two for three with a double and a run scored.

The Bruins’ Rick Heineman gave up three runs in the bottom of the seventh to drop his record to 0-7 on the season.
