The Orange County chapter of the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation will hold its 24th Annual WalkAmerica on Saturday to benefit the organization’s Campaign for Healthier Babies.
The walk will start at 8 a.m. on Huntington State Beach at Pacific Coast Highway and Magnolia Street.
More than 5,000 walkers are expected to participate in the event, which will follow an eight-mile oceanfront route.
Walkers, including individuals, corporate employees, families, student groups and other organizations, are asked to obtain $100 in donations from sponsors. Organizers hope to raise a total of $425,000.
WalkAmerica is the primary fund-raising event for the March of Dimes nationwide, with more than 800,000 walkers in more than 1,400 communities expected to participate Saturday.
Disney characters, Mighty Ducks hockey players Terry Yake and Peter Douris and two local musical groups are also scheduled to take part in the local event. For more information, contact the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation at (714) 631-8700.
