VENTURA : Bogus Pipe Bomb Found at Schoolyard
Ventura police found a bogus pipe bomb in a trash can after a threat was called into Buena High School, authorities said.
A man telephoned the school about 1:25 p.m. Thursday and said a bomb was set to go off within the hour, said Ventura Police Officer Robin Dawson.
Police searched the high school for about 90 minutes, Dawson said, before “security guards found a funny-looking pipe inside a trash can in the schoolyard.”
As students left their classes about 3 p.m., they were rerouted away from the trash can while a robot safely removed the pipe, which had tape on the ends.
“It turned out to be zippo,” Dawson said.
