OCC Crew Will Try for Ninth Palmer Cup

Orange Coast’s crew team goes after its ninth consecutive Palmer Cup Sunday when the Pirates host the 29th annual Newport Rowing Regatta on North Lido Channel in Newport Beach.

Orange Coast will be competing against four-year colleges, including UC Irvine, UCLA, Long Beach State, UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara, San Diego State, UC San Diego, Sacramento State and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

The first of seven races starts at 8 p.m. on the 2,000-meter course. Orange Coast won the event with 22 points last season, finishing first in the Freshman 8, Varsity 4 and Novice 8.

The Palmer Cup goes to the team that gets the most points.
