PORT HUENEME : Hearing on RV Park Tonight May Be the Last

Share

Opponents of a planned recreational vehicle park in Port Hueneme will have a final chance to air their concerns at a public hearing today before the City Council decides whether to approve the project.

The hearing, set for 6 p.m. at Port Hueneme City Hall, is expected to be the last of several the city has held on the proposed park over the last four years, City Clerk Karen Jackson said.

The vote is expected to be preceded by a protest from residents who claim that the park will harm the environment, invade their privacy with traffic and tourists, and block their view of the ocean.

City officials, however, have pursued the RV park as a means to bring much-needed revenue to the city, saying the park will generate $400,000 per year.

The City Council will consider whether to approve an environmental impact report that states that the project’s effects on the environment will be minor. The council must also decide whether to change the zoning of the beachfront property to allow for a commercial RV park. Finally, the council will decide whether to issue itself a development permit, said Tom Figg, city director of community development.
