ENCINO : Gunmen Seize Cash, Video Game Systems
It wasn’t just cash they wanted when two gunmen robbed an Encino video store as employees were closing up shop Wednesday. The thieves also took $4,000 worth of electronic video game systems, police said.
No one was hurt in the 3:30 a.m. incident, in which thieves took 16 Sega Genesis and 12 Super Nintendo video game systems, in addition to stealing $2,000 in cash from the store’s safe, said Los Angeles Police Detective Ken DeBie.
A night manager and an employee of a Blockbuster Video store in the 17600 block of Ventura Boulevard were locking up the business and about to activate the alarm system when two gunmen forced them back into the store and demanded to know where the safe was kept and where the video game systems were stored, authorities said.
The suspects, in their mid-20s, tied the workers before fleeing with the cash and merchandise, DeBie said. The employees untied each other and called authorities.
One of the workers told police that the employees stayed after the store closed at midnight to finish office work.
Police do not have any suspects or a description of their vehicle.
