A 43-year-old Simi Valley man died after he made a left turn in front of an oncoming car, police said.

Thorne Gardner was pronounced dead of multiple injuries at Simi Valley Hospital at 9:55 p.m. Tuesday, about an hour after the accident, authorities said.

Police said Gardner was turning left onto Stow Street from Los Angeles Avenue when he was struck by a car driven by Tina Cammarello, who was traveling east on Los Angeles Avenue.

Cammarello, 39, of Simi Valley had some back pain but declined to be hospitalized, police said. Her passenger, Roland Tinoco, 40, of Woodland Hills, also had back pain and declined immediate treatment.

Police said they do not know how fast the two vehicles were traveling when they collided. The speed limit on Los Angeles Avenue is 45 m.p.h.

Investigators will check the vehicles to see if either was malfunctioning, and the Ventura County coroner’s office is running tests to see if Gardner was intoxicated or impaired at the time of the accident, Simi Valley Police Sgt. Jeff Malgren said.
