SYLMAR : Wide Diversity Promised for Parade
The 11th annual Sylmar Parade will take place today with the most diverse group of entries ever, parade organizers say.
“Sylmar: Something for Everyone” is the theme of this year’s parade, sponsored by the Sylmar Chamber of Commerce. More than 50 entries, including clowns, floats, the Sylmar High School band, Polynesian dancers, equestrian groups, antique and specialty cars and drill teams will make their way through Sylmar, starting at 10:30 a.m. at Sylmar Park.
The parade will travel on Borden Avenue to Polk Street, then east on Foothill Boulevard, south onto Hubbard Street to Glenoaks Boulevard and back to Polk Street, ending in Sylmar Park at 1 p.m.
Frank Jacobs, the chamber’s executive director, will hand out trophies to the 34 best entries, and Los Angeles City Councilman Richard Alarcon will be the parade’s grand marshal.
“This should be the best one yet,” said Doris Jacobs of the Sylmar chamber.
