Voter Registration

Today is the last day to register to vote in the June 7 primary.

* Who may register: You must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years old on or before Election Day, and a California resident for 29 days before the election. If you move within 28 days of the election, you may vote by returning to your former precinct or by obtaining an absentee ballot for that precinct. If you are in prison or on parole for a felony conviction you are ineligible to vote.

* Reasons to register or re-register:

* If you have never registered to vote.

* If you have moved since the last election.

* If you have changed your name.

* If you want to change your party affiliation.

* How and where to register: Mail-in voter registration forms are available at most county offices, city halls, Department of Motor Vehicles offices, fire stations, post offices, libraries, chambers of commerce, banks, high schools, senior citizen centers and many other locations.

Forms also can be obtained at the office of the Los Angeles County registrar-recorder, 12400 Imperial Highway, Norwalk, Calif. 90650 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Voters can also call the 24-hour voter line, (800) 481-VOTE, or the secretary of state’s voter hot line, (800) 345-VOTE. Forms must be postmarked no later than May 9.

* Absentee ballots: Applications for absentee ballots are on the back page of your sample ballot. They may also be obtained by writing to the registrar’s office at the above address or P.O. Box 30450, Los Angeles, Calif. 90030-0450. Mail applications for absentee ballots must be received by May 31.
