Two people were killed early Sunday after the car in which they were riding swerved out of control and flipped over several times, ejecting the occupants on the southbound Antelope Valley Freeway near Newhall, the California Highway Patrol said.

Authorities have not determined what caused the accident and did not release the names of the two victims riding in the car, pending notification of next of kin.

A third unidentified person had been in the car as a passenger and was taken to a San Fernando Valley hospital with massive injuries.

None of the three were wearing seat belts and all were ejected from the car when it failed to make a left-hand turn just south of Escondido Canyon Road, said CHP Officer Frank Lewis. The car swerved into the right shoulder and flipped over several times.
