LOS ANGELES : Deadline for Quake Aid Applications Extended

The deadline to apply for disaster assistance under the Jan. 17 Northridge earthquake presidential declaration has been extended 60 days, to July 18.

Local, state and federal agencies are still receiving more than 1,600 assistance applications daily at earthquake service centers or by phone, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency and state Office of Emergency Services.

The deadline for the U.S. Small Business Administration’s disaster loan program for individuals and businesses was also extended to July 18.

People not yet registered with FEMA for assistance may go to an earthquake service center or call (800) 462-9029, or (800) 462-7585 for the hearing- or speech-impaired.

People already registered who have questions may call (800) 525-0321, or (800) 660-8005 for the hearing- or speech-impaired.
