A Vocal Protest: Radio jocks Kevin and Bean broadcast their KROQ-FM (106.7) morning show live Friday in front of KCAL-TV Channel 9 studios to protest their exclusion from a weeklong salute to local deejays on KCAL’s “Live in L.A.” morning show. Rick Dees was the in-studio guest, while outside Kevin Ryder and Bean Baxter wore “I Love Rick Dees” shirts as a mock tribute to their morning rival on KIIS-FM (102.7). When asked by hosts Steve Edwards and Tawny Little if he wanted to make peace with his competitors, Dees said: “I don’t want to talk to them. There’s an incredible amount of meanness in broadcasting and to affirm that (is something) I don’t want to do.” Last October, Dees threatened litigation against the KROQ duo on “Live in L.A.” when they sent a colleague to stake out Dees’ home to see if he actually goes to work in the early morning or pre-tapes his show.

Peace Mission: Child star Macaulay Culkin plans to meet with three Long Island fifth-graders who were unceremoniously hustled away last Sunday, moments before a scheduled interview with him about his new MGM film, “Getting Even With Dad.” MGM has decided to fly their star back to New York in three weeks just to talk to the young reporters from Kidsday, Newsday’s kids page. MGM has also invited the reporters’ fifth-grade class to lunch. On Friday, the three students--Ike Mangat, Jessica Rutkovsky and Thomas Kenny--wrote to Culkin in an open letter in their Kidsday section: “We could give you some advice for the future: Don’t let older people tell you who to talk to. You are 13, and we think you are old enough to make some of your own decisions.”

LEGAL FILE

DeLuise Cleared: A grand jury refused to bring charges against Dom DeLuise after a male casino employee accused the comic of touching him in a sexual way. “That action closes our case,” said Atlantic City, N.J., prosecutor Jeffrey Blitz. “The grand jury failed to find sufficient reason to proceed with prosecution.” Ralph Schifano, a 24-year-old employee at Merv Griffin’s Resorts Casino Hotel, claimed the 60-year-old DeLuise touched him on March 26 while staying at the hotel. DeLuise, who recently appeared in Mel Brooks’ “Robin Hood: Men in Tights,” maintained his innocence.

* Rick James’ Woes Grow: Singer Rick James was ruled ineligible for a state drug-treatment program and may have to complete a five-year prison sentence instead of being freed later this year. James, 46, had been undergoing treatment in Southern California for five months while prison officials decided whether he should be formally admitted. This week, the warden ruled James ineligible for the short-term program because of assault convictions stemming from attacks on two women, said his attorney, Mark Werksman. “(The decision) baffles me, because he has done very well in the program,” Werksman said. “They just looked at the whole package and said, ‘We don’t like this guy.’ ”

* Snapshots Target of Suit: Rock star Rod Stewart and his model-wife, Rachel Hunter, have filed a $5-million invasion-of-privacy lawsuit against a local celebrity photo distribution company in hopes of keeping bare-all snapshots under wraps. Stewart, 49, said the pictures were stolen from the couple’s Beverly Hills home and wound up in the hands of Splash News and Pictures in Santa Monica. “Within the privacy of their home, and for their exclusive personal use and enjoyment, the Stewarts posed for and took the photographs,” according to the lawsuit filed Wednesday. The owners of the photo company, Kevin Smith and Gary Morgan, wouldn’t say whether they have the pictures. But they said they would never distribute stolen material.
