RUSSIA FLIGHTS: Business is business, so it wasn’t much of a shock when Aeroflot Russian International Airlines started direct service this week between Los Angeles and Moscow. . . . Arkady Kivman, owner of Moscow Nights restaurant in Studio City, says he knows Russian immigrants in the Valley who will certainly take advantage of the twice-weekly flights. “You can’t do business with Russia if you’re not over there,” he said.

TREK’S END: Think of it as a new frontier. After Monday’s episode, members of the “Star Trek: The Next Generation” cast head to the big screen. . . . “There’s a wealth of material in the ‘Star Trek’ universe,” said Charles Jackson of the Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society, based in North Hollywood. “It’s a matter of whether they choose to explore it.”

CSUN WINS: OK, so maybe it was a disappointing year for the Cal State Northridge baseball team, but the softball squad is making up for it. The Matadors, edging closer to the World Series, beat Maine, 8-0, Friday and will play Cal State Fullerton today. . . . Shannon Jones (above) hit a homer to spark the victory (C14).

ANCIENT HISTORY: Yes, a lot of years have passed since Camelot. So many, in fact, that many of today’s teens know little about the woman who was such a key part of that legacy. . . . Students at John F. Kennedy High School in Granada Hills said teachers taught them virtually nothing about Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. J.F.K. “was her ex-husband, huh?” said one freshman (B3).

BEAR DOWN: Azusa police killed a 350-pound bear that entered a residential neighborhood Friday. Agents from the state Department of Fish and Game fired two tranquilizer darts at the animal, but it kept going (B1). . . . Bears have been known to wander into the Valley, as well. Two years ago, a bear was found dead on the Golden State Freeway near Santa Clarita, and in 1987, one climbed a tree in Granada Hills.
