OJAI : Steers Heed Nature’s Call in Fund-Raiser

For three steers, the call of nature was turned into a unique fund-raising game of chance at Nordhoff High School in Ojai.
The school’s football field was fenced off and its turf carved into a 5,000-square grid for the school’s first “Plop-O-Rama” contest Saturday.
Contestants purchased squares at $5 each. If the animals relieved themselves on squares selected by the players, they won prize money. The steers were donated for the event by a local rancher, and about 200 people attended the event sponsored by the Nordhoff High School Booster Club.
“We had a great time and raised a nice little sum of money,” Principal Mike Maez said. ‘
Maez said the two-hour event raised $3,500, which will be applied toward a fund-raising goal of $38,000 to purchase two school vans.
Jo Ann Leclere of Ojai won $1,000 for owning the square where the third “plop” took place. She was followed by John Hunter and Doug Logan, both of Ojai, who won $500 and $250, respectively, for their square selections.
