New Concert Date Possible

Although no formal decision is expected until this afternoon, organizers expect that Barbra Streisand will reschedule her canceled concert at The Pond of Anaheim. People with tickets are being asked to retain them for use on a date to be announced.

It seems unlikely that the show, or any other shows Streisand may cancel here, would be moved to the off nights in her Anaheim schedule (She is scheduled to perform Friday and every other night after that through June 4). Sources close to the singer say she scheduled her tour specifically so to avoid working on consecutive nights and that it is extremely unlikely that she would alter that plan, especially given her throat condition.

A possible scenario: Streisand would return for any make-up dates after appearances June 7 and 9 at the San Jose Arena, her next stop on the tour. She has no concerts planned between the San Jose shows and a five-night stand beginning June 20 at Madison Square Garden in New York, her final stop.

Moving the elaborate stage set to San Jose and back to Anaheim would add considerable expense to the production, according to Streisand’s publicist, Dick Guttman. But there may be no alternative.

Meanwhile, people who bought their tickets through brokers shouldn’t worry, at least according to two ticket dealers in Orange County. Any refunds will be made in full, and not just for the face value of the ticket, according to spokesmen for the Box Office Ticket Service in Fullerton and Executive Tickets in Irvine.
