Grant to Help Firms in Quake Recovery
Ventura County businesses will get a $760,000 boost from the U.S. government to help recover from the Jan. 17 earthquake and plan for future economic development, U.S. Rep. Anthony C. Beilenson (D-Thousand Oaks) announced Thursday.
The U.S. Department of Commerce has agreed to grant the money to Ventura County to help stabilize and strengthen businesses that were shaken by the quake.
“The purpose of the grant is to help Ventura County in its efforts to get individuals who lost their jobs back to work, assist businesses in getting back into operation and retain businesses that are experiencing negative economic problems” due to the quake, Beilenson said in a prepared statement.
The money will pay to hire earthquake recovery coordinators to help businesses that lost income due to the earthquake. It also will be used to draft a plan for economic recovery and future development, said Susan Little, a spokeswoman for Beilenson’s office.
