Burbank Man Charged in Transient’s Slaying
A 32-year-old transient died early Friday after he was shot several times in a Burbank apartment the day before, police said.
Burbank police released few details about the shooting death of Warren Giblin.
“It’s still not totally clear to us yet,” said Lt. Larry Koch of the Burbank Police Department.
A suspect, Ralph E. Martin, 26, of Burbank, was charged with murder and is being held at the Burbank jail in lieu of $1-million bail. He is scheduled to be arraigned in Burbank Municipal Court on Tuesday.
The shooting took place at about 5 p.m. Thursday inside Martin’s apartment in the 200 block of West Ash Avenue, police said. Giblin was treated at the scene by paramedics and died about eight hours later at Holy Cross Medical Center.
Giblin was the father of two young children who lived at one time in the Burbank Village area bordered by Olive Avenue, 6th Street, and Magnolia and Glenoaks boulevards, according to the Burbank Temporary Aid Center.
Giblin went to the center for free food about half a dozen times and told workers there that he had been unemployed since February, 1993.
“He said he was a Jack-of-all-trades and was willing to do anything,” said Jay Storms, a computer technician for the center. “Food was what he was looking for.”
The homicide is the city’s fourth of the year.
