INTERNATIONAL ROUNDUP : Unbeaten Twining Wins by 7 1/2 Lengths
Twining remained undefeated in five starts with a 7 1/2-length victory over stablemate Lahint in the Grade II Peter Pan Stakes at Belmont Park on Sunday.
Not nominated for the Triple Crown series, Twining is not eligible for the Belmont Stakes on June 11 and will have to wait until later to challenge the rest of the year’s top 3-year-olds.
Twining, carrying 122 pounds and ridden by Jose Santos, stalked the pace before taking command in the upper stretch. He ran 1 1/8 miles in 1:49.
The Scotty Schulhofer-trained colt, a son of Forty Niner, earned $90,000 from the total purse of $150,000 for owners Mohammed al Maktoum, Helen C. Alexander and Helen K. Groves.
Twining and Lahint returned $2.40 and $2.10. There was no show wagering.

Narita Brian, the 1-5 favorite, won the Japan Derby in Tokyo by five lengths, putting him one victory away from winning the Japanese triple crown.
Narita Brian, a son of 1988 Florida Derby winner Brian’s Time, extended his winning streak to six by covering the 1 1/2 miles on turf in 2:25 4/5.

Bold Ruritana, the only filly in a field of 10, surged to a one-length victory in the Bayou Hebert Handicap at Churchill Downs.
Bold Ruritana covered the mile on turf in 1:36 3/5 and paid $13.60, $7.00 and $4.20. Bengal Tiger paid $10 and $5.20 and Al Sabin returned $7.00.
