GLENDALE : Bus Routes Canceled Due to Low Ridership

Share

Two routes on Glendale’s Beeline bus system have been canceled due to low ridership, the city announced.

Buses on Route 3, which serves the Glendale Adventist Medical Center, will cease operating after Friday. Route 5 buses, which cover the Montrose area, will cease running after Saturday.

Added to the Glendale Beeline last November as part of a major expansion to the system, the two routes have lured few riders, city officials said. A six-month evaluation--studying the effectiveness and efficiency of the routes based on an average of 20 passengers per hour--was just completed. Route 3, which runs on Chevy Chase Drive from Garfield Avenue to the Glendale Adventist Medical Center, averaged only six boardings an hour. Route 5, running from Verdugo Hills Hospital, along Honolulu Avenue, to Pennsylvania Avenue, averaged two boardings an hour.

Although the two Beeline routes will discontinue, the same destinations can be reached by taking Metropolitan Transit Authority buses. The MTA can be reached at (818) 246-2593 for more information.

The Beeline buses used for the discontinued routes will be put into service on the remaining lines, 1, 2 and 4, which all exceeded 20 boardings per hour.

Fares for Beeline buses are 25 cents for a one-way ride, 15 cents for the disabled and those 60 and older.
