WHOSE MONEY? You think all those business magazines at the newsstand are full of expert advice? Better watch out for the latest from Your Money. Financial writer James Millar advises in the June/July issue that it’s good business to invest your retirement funds with a specialized company. His recommendation: First Pension Corp. of Irvine. . . . Think again. Just recently it was revealed that First Pension is bankrupt and deep in scandal, with millions of investor dollars missing. . . . The toll-free number it lists to call First Pension has been disconnected.

NOT PURRFECT: You think it’s easy being the mayor of a major city? Think of Tom Daly of Anaheim: He was supposed to be official greeter for some of the elite cats headed for the annual International Cat Show at the city’s Convention Center. He had to get Councilman Irv Pickler to sub--the mayor is allergic to cats. . . . Says Daly: “Maybe Irv can pick up the cat-lover vote.” More than 800 blue-ribbon felines will be competing and on display Saturday and Sunday.

NEW ANGELS: Gone soon will be those Caltrans Orange Angels--the people who rescue you when you’re stalled on the freeway. But John Standiford of the county Transportation Authority says they aren’t going away, they’re just getting better. . . . They’re merging with the local Freeway Service Patrol and will concentrate on the traffic mess where the Santa Ana Freeway meets the Costa Mesa Freeway. Says Standiford: “It’s going to mean better service more often.” The service’s arrival time to stranded motorists is under 10 minutes in 75% of its calls.
