South Coast Stars Lead Way

South Coast League pitchers proved to be too much for the North in the 27th Kiwanis Orange County All-Star baseball game Tuesday night.

The South, led by its South Coast League contingent, came away with an 8-3 victory at Glover Stadium.

The victory gives the South a 14-13 advantage in the series.

Four South Coast League pitchers limited the North to four hits and three runs, only one of them earned, through seven innings. Dana Hills’ Seth Etherton started and got the victory, giving up two runs, one of them unearned. He struck out four batters in two innings.

Mater Dei’s Adam Harris, San Clemente’s Chad Wanders and Capistrano Valley’s Peter Zamora followed. Zamora gave up the only other run, which was unearned.

Saddleback’s Tony Zuniga, La Quinta’s Jim Livernois and Edison’s Todd Belitz finished up.

The South led, 4-3, after seven innings, and broke the game open with a four-run eighth. Consecutive singles by Ryan Fullerton, Miles Hughey and Jeff Pickler got one run home. Jeff Bowman then doubled for a 7-3 lead. Geoff Wilson’s triple scored Bowman.
