TORRANCE : Man Convicted in Slaying of Catering Truck Owner
A Santa Monica man who said he was hired by a caterer to intimidate the competition was convicted of murdering a catering truck owner after an argument last year.
Cornell Price was found guilty this week of second-degree murder in the May 13, 1993, shooting of Jose Argueta outside a lumber yard.
Witnesses said Price threw Argueta against a coffee maker in his truck and told him to leave the city. When Argueta motioned toward a gun, Price disarmed him, shot him in the leg, threw him out of the truck and shot him in the back, prosecutors said.
Price’s attorney said the shooting was self defense.
Sentencing was scheduled for June 28.
