Orthodontist to Run for College District

A Thousand Oaks orthodontist on Friday announced his candidacy for a seat on the board of the Ventura County Community College District.

Dr. Norman Nagel is running for the trustee position being vacated by Dr. Gregory Cole in Area 2, which includes Thousand Oaks, Westlake, part of Port Hueneme and the Santa Rosa Valley.

“This is a culmination of my children having gone through Moorpark College and my wife getting her nursing degree from there as well,” Nagel said. “I really felt that they were receiving a good education.

“Yet, as we look to the future and see the fiscal constraints facing the business and educational communities, I want to somehow give assistance to the district.”

His four children all took classes at Moorpark before going on to other colleges and universities.

Nagel has offices in both Thousand Oaks and Simi Valley. He is on the faculty of the UCLA School of Dentistry and is a credentialed teacher with the Simi Valley Unified School District.

He said his practice would not be affected if he is elected. “I’ve been in the Navy reserves for 30 years and I’m retiring from that,” Nagel said. “So frankly, that is going to free up a lot of those weekends.”
