MOORPARK : Corporate Planner Seeks Education Seat

Share

Saying he wants to push for more technology education in schools, corporate planner David Pollock announced Friday he will run for a spot on the Moorpark Board of Education this fall.

The terms for board members Pam Castro and Gary Cabriales expire in November, and school officials said both probably will run to keep their seats. Pollock, 33, who works for Rockwell International, said he probably would serve with either Castro or Cabriales after the election and did not want to be critical of the board.

“In the last five years, this district has grown dramatically,” he said. “And I guess if I was going to say anything critical, it would be that I want to see more professionalism on how the district runs its business.”

For two years, Pollock has served as chairman of a 29-member committee set up by the board to study the effectiveness of schools in Moorpark. Many of the recommendations made in January by the committee--including those to institute school choice in Moorpark--were adopted by the district for the coming school year. In June, 1993, Pollock vied with five other candidates for a school board appointment when board member Sam Nainoa resigned. He lost to Cabriales.

Pollock has lived in Moorpark with his family for five years. Pollock, who has two children attending Moorpark’s Peach Hill Elementary School, said his children are the main reason for his involvement in the school district.
