Twenty-one students at Cal State San Bernardino are under investigation for allegedly falsifying their student records and could face expulsion from the university and have their academic work voided.

Craig Henderson, coordinator of student conduct at the campus, said the matter “is unusual because of the number of students (involved) and because of the nature of the accusations,” but he declined to elaborate.

The allegations were brought to light June 2 by a university audit, school officials said, and the students involved have been notified. All are foreign-born, but officials said they were barred by confidentiality laws from giving further identification or saying how many among the group may be eligible for the school’s June 20 graduation.

Randy Harrell, assistant vice president of student services, said officials hope to finish the investigation by graduation week.
