BREA : Work to Begin on Imperial Highway

Share

A 10-month, $1.1-million project to widen Imperial Highway adjacent to the Civic Center and Brea Mall is scheduled to get underway today.

The work will involve adding right-turn lanes between the Orange Freeway and Randolph Avenue. Imperial will remain open throughout the project, and at most times three lanes of traffic will be maintained in both directions.

Construction will generally occur from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays. Work will be halted during the holiday shopping period from Nov. 11 through Jan. 3.

The project’s first phase, scheduled to continue through August, will involve work along the north side of Imperial. Tasks will include removing center island medians, replacing sewer lines, installing new traffic signals at Randolph and State College, building retaining walls with ornamental fencing, and putting in new street lighting, curbs, gutters and sidewalks.

Phase Two, planned for September through early November, will focus on the south side of Imperial. The final phase, scheduled for January through March of 1995, will involve installation of landscaped center island medians, and repaving Randolph south of Imperial.
