IRVINE : Woman Raped in Her Home by Intruder

Share

Police said they are investigating an early morning rape Monday in the Westpark section of the city and the attempted break-in of two nearby houses.

A 26-year-old woman, who was alone in her home, called police about 7:30 a.m. to report that she had been awakened in her second floor bedroom and raped by a man who had broken into her home.

She was being treated at a local hospital, Police Lt. Sam Allevato said.

The attacker apparently entered the single-family residence by forcing open a laundry room window, Allevato said. He ransacked the first floor before entering the bedroom.

The woman told police that the man did not display a weapon during the attack, but he threatened her and told her not to call police, Allevato said.

Two other homes on an adjoining street had signs of attempted forced entry, Allevato said. At one of the homes, a garage was entered and a car ransacked.

Through April of this year, there have been four reported rapes in the city, Allevato said.

There have been no other recent break-ins reported in the Westpark area, he said.
