ENDLESS RACE: Appointed Ventura County Auditor-Controller Thomas O. Mahon will have to wait a few more days to find out who he will face in a November runoff. . . . Last week, with 8,000 absentee ballots still uncounted, Scott Weiss held a slim 74-vote lead over Richard Morrisset for second place in the June primary. Now with all but 500 votes counted, Morrisset is ahead by five votes. The final results are scheduled to be released Tuesday. “It’s frustrating,” Weiss said. “But then I guess it’s better to be in this position than to have been eliminated from the race already.”
