YORBA LINDA : Recreation Panel Vacancy Is Filled

Share

A vacant seat on the Parks and Recreation Commission was filled this week when the City Council appointed Steve Brunette to the commission.

Brunette and three other candidates interviewed Tuesday by the council were seeking the spot vacated by Kenneth Ryan, who resigned from the commission to serve on the Planning Commission.

With Brunette’s appointment, the Parks and Recreation Commission now has five members appointed since November.

Four of the previous five commissioners were fired from the commission last September after a letter from them critical of the City Council appeared in a weekly city newspaper.

The former commission members came under fire last year from the City Council and representatives of several youth sports organizations for not focusing their attention on the needs of youth sports.

Some of those groups also questioned why the commission had four members without children involved in youth sports.

The new commissioners are all active in at least one youth sports organization.

Brunette will join the commission next month and serve the balance of Ryan’s term, which expires in December, 1995.
