LAGUNA HILLS : 2 Streets Will Get New Speed Limits

Share

Changes in the speed limits on two city streets have been approved by the City Council.

One will be raised 5 m.p.h. and the other lowered by the same amount.

The speed limit on Alicia Parkway between the southern city limit and Moulton Parkway will be changed from the current 45 m.p.h. to 50 m.p.h.

State law requires that speed limits be fairly set. According to recent court rulings, speed limits should be set within 5 m.p.h. of the speed driven by 85% of the drivers.

A speed survey conducted in April showed that 85% of the drivers on Alicia between Moulton and the city boundary were traveling at 53 m.p.h.

The other change will come on La Paz Road between Paseo de Valencia and Rickenbacker Road. The new speed limit will be 35 m.p.h., down from 40 m.p.h.

The traffic survey showed that 85% of the drivers were traveling at 44 m.p.h.

But the limit was still lowered because of the high number of accidents, the presence of Valencia Elementary School and limited sight distance for drivers entering La Paz Road from the Mission Hills Shopping Center.
