MOORPARK : Black Leader Enters School Board Race
Campaigning under the banner of more multiculturalism in the school district, IRS auditor Ted Green said Friday that he will run for a seat on the Moorpark Board of Education this fall.
Green, 47, will face current board members Pam Castro and Gary Cabriales, who both plan to run for reelection when their terms expire in November. David Pollock, a corporate planner from Moorpark, last week announced his intention to run for a seat.
Green, education committee chairman for the Ventura Chapter of the National Assn. for the Advancement of Colored People, has been highly critical of the Moorpark Unified School District board over the last several years. His differences with the board have included frequent requests for the district to remove the controversial novel “The Cay” from its high school reading list.
If elected, Green said, he would push the district to hire black teachers and rid the school library of “racist” literature.
“I won’t be a rubber-stamp of the school administration or the teachers union,” he said. “I will push for affirmative action and multiculturalism and also push for academic excellence instead of sports achievement.”
Green and his wife have lived in Moorpark for 10 years. He has three grown sons.
