Splash Defeats Neon in Overtime Shootout

The Splash, which led by four goals midway in the third quarter, needed an overtime shootout to beat the Detroit Neon in a Continental Indoor Soccer League match Sunday at The Palace of Auburn Hills before an announced crowd of 7,112.
The teams were tied, 9-9, at the end of regulation and neither scored in a 10-minute overtime period. The Splash (4-0) won the shootout, 4-3, and was credited with a 10-9 victory in the match.
Dale Ervine, going last for the Splash in the shootout, scored to clinch the victory.
Detroit (0-3) scored five consecutive goals in the second half to take a 9-8 lead, but the Splash’s Doug Neely scored with 4 minutes 40 seconds left in regulation to tie it, 9-9.
Neely, Ervine, Rod Castro and Raffaele Ruotolo scored two goals each for the Splash, which returns home to play Detroit on Wednesday.
