Silva, Pires Win Volleyball Tournament
Jackie Silva and Sandra Pires, both of San Clemente, won the women’s title at the $100,000 Miller Lite Open Pro Beach volleyball tournament Sunday in Milwaukee.
Silva and Pires, originally from Brazil, beat Linda Chisholm and Linda Hanley, 11-10, 7-6. Both are from Pacific Palisades.
It was the 46th victory for Silva and the first for Pires who split $5,714.
Adam Johnson of San Clemente and teammate Randy Stoklos (Pacific Palisades) lost in the men’s final. They were defeated by Brent Frohoff (Manhattan Beach) and Ricci Luyties (San Diego), 15-9.
The winners split $20,000 and the second-place finishers received $11,400. Scott Friederichsen and Leif Hanson, both of Laguna Hills, were third. Fourth place went to Troy Tanner and Wes Welch, both of San Clemente.

Karolyn Kirby and Liz Masakayan, both of San Diego, won the Reebok Hermosa Beach women’s volleyball open Sunday.
Kirby and Masakayan, the top-seeded team, beat Gail Castro of Carlsbad and Elaine Roque of Malibu, 15-5, in the title match.
