Teen-aged R&B; singer Aaliyah is a protege of R. Kelly, who’s noted for his racy material . Though he wrote, produced and raps on her single, “Back and Forth,” it’s not that racy--but it’s a big hit: No. 4 on The Times’ Southern California pop singles chart. Her first album, “Age Ain’t Nothing But a Number,” is doing well too: No. 17 on the pop chart. Unlike some rap artists who make splashy chart debuts and then fade, Warren G. is apparently no flash-in-the-pan. His “Regulate” album still tops the pop, rap and R&B; charts.
