Entrepreneurs Sought for Free Training Program

The Pacific Asian Consortium in Employment in Westlake is seeking applicants for a free six-week training program in the fundamentals of starting and operating a small business.

The program is designed for low-income entrepreneurs who want to go into business for themselves and have a marketable idea for a new micro-business.

Applicants must be legal residents, speak and read English, have an income that is at or below the poverty line, work experience related to the proposed business and some evidence of their own preparation to set up a business.

Applicants who are accepted will be expected to attend training classes five days a week for four hours a day. The next training session begins July 11 at the PACE office, 2525 W. 8th St., Suite 208.

Topics to be covered include assessing entrepreneurial skill, fundamentals of marketing and merchandise, taxes, permits, bookkeeping and accounting and business and financial planning.

Staff members and mentors will provide graduates with technical assistance, including help getting business loans.
