PIRU : 3-Year-Old Boy Bitten by Rattler, Hospitalized
A 3-year-old Piru boy was in good and stable condition Saturday after being bitten on the foot by a rattlesnake in the driveway of his home.
Salvador Ciseners was in the intensive care unit at Santa Paula Memorial Hospital, a nursing supervisor said.
Shortly after 9 p.m. Friday, the toddler tried to pick up a foot-long rattler that was stretched out in the driveway of his family’s home on Main Street in Piru. The snake bit him on the inside of his left foot, Ventura County fire officials said.
“I guess he thought it was a lizard,” Capt. Elliot Handy said. “He picked up this rattlesnake and it bit him in the foot. It was fairly serious.” The leg swelled considerably, Handy said, before the boy was transported to the hospital. Firefighters killed the small snake.
